Established in 1973, Shaanxi Railway Institute is the only public higher vocational institute in railway engineering in Northwest China. It is also a backbone higher vocational institute of national demonstration, an excellent institute passed the Assessment for Personnel Training Vocational Education by the Ministry of Education as well as a Star Demonstration Institute across China. The Institute covers an area of 1050 mu (approximately 173 acres), with total enrollment of over 13,000 students. It has nearly 40 majors in eight departments and four branches, and recruits students with the national unified entrance. Its talent cultivation adheres to the Institute Motto of Cultivating one’s moral character with virtues and starting one’s career with skills, abides by the concept of Being student-oriented and integrating teaching, learning and practicing, carries forward the spirit of Bearing hardships and being devoted as well as struggling to be prosperous, and forms school characteristics of Campus culture inherits railway culture, the majors highlight railway engineering, teaching practice consolidates railway-related skills, work-integrated learning relies on railway enterprises, and graduates take delight in career in railway.

The Institute has paid high attention to international exchanges and cooperation and actively set up a platform for such exchanges and cooperation. Currently, the Institute has been listed as one of Chinese colleges in the “One-hundred, One-thousand, Ten-thousand Talent Project”, a council member of vocational education groups of the Silk Road, a council member of vocational education groups of One Belt One Road, and a member of the administration committee of Sino-Russian Transportation University Principals Alliance - China Railway Transportation Technical Personnel Training Alliance.

In recent years, the Institute has made great efforts to become an “industry-leading, provincial demonstration, domestic first-class, and world renowned” institute, actively carried out international exchanges and cooperation, and further promoted the internationalization strategy of vocational education. All backbone teachers and middle-level cadres have opportunities to visit the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Singapore etc. for exchanges and management training, and students of fine qualities and fine scholar have opportunities to go to countries such as Russia and Korea as well as regions such as Taiwan for short-term study. Sino-foreign cooperative education has been launched and overseas training has taken firm steps to move forward. The Institute will further push forward the internationalization work and devote itself to realizing the goal of building a high quality national higher vocational institute.
